Ed Burns, MAMFT, Resident Relational Psychotherapist I was born in Indianapolis (’68) and have lived in the greater Indianapolis area most all of my life. I received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University (’91). I entered Christian Theological Seminary (CTS) in the spring of 2004 where I graduated magna cum laude with a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy degree (May, ’07). I am a spiritual-based psychotherapist with areas of specialty that include but are not limited to relational therapy, addictive behaviors, anxiety and depression, personality disorders, mourning and loss and spiritual crises. I have been a practicing therapist since May of 2005. I am a member of Indianapolis Psychoanalytic Society and a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I have Faith in therapy as a means of change for I continue to witness its benefits in others and in myself. It is my ethical and pragmatic responsibility to create a safe and sacred space for all who enter into our binding therapeutic covenant. With a relational floor of trust, I will strive to become a reliable relational object for which one and all can transform their pain to survival and from survival to growth. It is my belief that our unique pain that binds us can become our greatest blessing and impetus for positive change. I look forward to our journey. Lesley Primarily, I work with anyone (individuals, couples, and families) experiencing some level of dissatisfaction in their life. I often begin by helping clients identify early roles, rules and cues reinforced by their families of origin which have shaped underlying beliefs about themselves, their relationships and the world. By identifying these things, clients begin to recognize and change current behaviors, beliefs or feelings which likely are contributing to their dissatisfaction. I am a graduate of the Indiana Wesleyan University Master of Arts program in Counseling, with a focus on Marriage and Family therapy. I studied a variety of theories and techniques as part of my education; however my primary focus of choice was John Bowlby's attachment theory which is derived from Object relations, and Psychodynamic theories. My primary therapeutic functions come from this base. Additionally, I draw from Systems theory and Cognitive-Behavioral theory. I am a post-graduate Resident Counselor seeking licensure through direct, on-sight supervision and clinical practice. I have some specific training in Emotion-Focused Therapy for couples. This technique examines the bond between two people and the attachment injuries and cyclical patterns which impede that bond. The goal is to heal those injuries and correct the patterns in order to strengthen the bond and dramatically solidify the relationship. This technique is the most proven technique for improving couple relationships. You may contact me at (317) 908-8769. You may leave a confidential voicemail, and may expect a return call within 24 hours. Appointments are usually available within one to two days of contact.
Rachel Glasser Practice DescriptionThe focus of my practice is in Medical Family Therapy. I assist individuals, families, and extended families to adjust to the emotional, physical, and psychological changes that can result from medical problems. I have a special interest in families dealing with genetic issues - whether they are adjusting to a genetic diagnosis, deciding whether or not to be tested, or needing to disclose genetic information to other family members. Other focus areas include clients and their families coping with autoimmune disorders (multiple sclerosis; chronic fatigue syndrome; lupus; and fibromyalgia) and neurological disorders (Huntington Disease; seizure disorders; and ALS). Some common problems seen in my practice include role changes, intimacy issues, body image changes, and depression related to a medical diagnosis. I also assist individuals having emotional or psychological difficulty with medical procedures, treatment decisions, and compliance issues. Medical challenges are viewed as impacting the patient as well as the entire family. The goal of therapy is to improve adjustment by identifying a family's strengths, and by understanding the meaning of the illness within the context of medical, family, social, and multigenerational systems. I also have a general practice in Marriage and Family Therapy treating individuals and couples with marital issues, mood disorders, grief, anxiety, and other emotional and psychological problems. Brian Grant I want to work with you if you're facing long-standing personality issues or relationship struggles growing out of them. Though not a psychoanalyst, I am strongly informed by psychoanalytic theory, particularly object relations and intersubjectivity. I like to work with individuals once or twice a week over periods of at least a year or two, and weekly with couples, focusing on the overlap between emotional issues that arise in the therapy room, in your life outside of therapy, and in your family of origin. I'm interested in concerns growing out of cultural difference, religious commitment, and immigration. I can be contacted at (317) 259-8965 or via e-mail on our contact page.
